In February 2020, Otavamedia moved to its new premises at Tripla in Pasila. The new workplace was around 5,100m² and situated on the top three floors of Tripla Workery. Workspace completed a project encompassing service design-based workplace development, operating method development, and interior design.

Service design methods get to the core of the workplace development concept

The old premises are just a stone’s throw from the new workplace, but they did not allow for the company’s new kind of agile and cross-boundary work. It was time to take a new approach to the changes in the industry.

Right from the very beginning, the management outlined its intent to transition to activity-based work and to carry out its operational overhaul together with staff. We chose a service design approach that involved eighteen months of flexible trials and pilots to find suitable solutions to support various working methods. Functional solutions were created for different worker personas using workday journeys. The solutions were tested in day-to-day work, and operating methods were adapted based on feedback. Feedback was taken into account and incorporated into the design of new spaces. A group of moving-in guides comprising Otavamedia employees supported the process.

A brand identity that supports character and the identity of various departments

Better interaction and collaboration between various departments were sought for the new office. Because digital working methods and channels were also undergoing modernisation at the same time as the space, we wanted to ensure that the spaces were visually inviting, versatile, and characterful. The basic values that steered design were life-cycle thinking and wellbeing. The new spaces are adaptable, layered, and durable. This can be seen in the adaptable space and furnishing solutions, in the recycled furniture, and in the choices of materials.

A suitable colour that reflected the spirit of the media families was chosen for each floor and softened by harmonious greys. The workplace comprised a very complex structure. Different working areas, spaces for interaction, work lounges and cafés, as well as different conference areas provide plenty of choice for anyone looking for an area to work in. The interesting lobby area, known as the “wow” lobby, is an oasis with curved sofas and greenery, and is also open for visitors to enjoy.
