Apotti relocated to its new office in Pitäjänmäki at the end of summer 2019. Workspace provided participatory work environment and interior design services for the project.

Starting with Work Environment Scenarios

The design process began in January 2019 by developing various work environment scenarios, exploring different options for the number of workstations and organizing work tasks. Based on the results of a previous workplace survey and occupancy measurements, it was decided to optimize the use of workstations and allocate space in a way that ensures a sufficient number of supportive spaces, such as private rooms for phone calls or Skype meetings, as well as adequate meeting rooms.

Space for both interaction and focused individual work

Previously, Apotti employees worked in open-plan offices with assigned workstations. This setup was challenging in terms of both maintaining a quiet work environment and making efficient use of space. In the new office, the workspace was designed according to the principles of an agile, activity-based office model. Although the change is significant, the model offers many benefits. It increases a sense of control for employees, as they can now choose a workstation that best suits their current task, without being stuck near high-traffic areas or next to disruptive meeting zones.

The office is also zoned according to different functions and sound levels, providing areas for both interaction and focused individual work. Various-sized meeting rooms were designed for both internal and external meetings. A new, spacious, and comfortable work café offers a relaxed environment for working, taking breaks, eating lunch, or even holding informal meetings with colleagues.

Color-Coded Functional Areas

The client had a clear request regarding the visual design: “Colors, please, but still with timeless solutions.” With this in mind, the visual design was developed to find solutions that supported the Apotti brand while being adapted to the space. The interior design incorporated Apotti’s own colors in moderation, combined with calming materials like wood surfaces and textiles. Color coding was used to clearly define different functional areas for easy identification.

During the design phase, pop-up events were organized for employees, providing opportunities to discuss the plans, give feedback, test different chair models, and vote for their favorites.
